The differences between two-phase traditional and one-phase dental implantation methods
Millions of people suffer from tooth loss these days, majorly due to tooth decay or gum disease, periodontal disease, or injury. For a prolonged period of time, the treatment available was bridges and dentures. But with technology advancement, dental implants are widely available now. They have become as valuable as gold for replacing the missing teeth for patients. Before going into the details, we need to clarify what major dental implantation methods exist and what is the most important difference between them.
What is a Dental Implant?
Dental Implants are “artificial roots” that restoring the original tooth roots. It is a tiny and sturdy high-quality titanium screw. It positioned to fit into the jawbone during the surgical process of replacing the damaged or missing teeth. In this dental implantation method, the screw firmly connects the artificial teeth to the jaw. They function and look just like natural teeth. In addition to that, implants are done to provide support to fixed and removable dentures.
What are the Two Major Implantation Methods?
While talking about Dental Implantation methods, there are two major types. One being the two-phase traditional and the other one-phase immediate loading implants. Let’s learn and understand the difference between these two.
What are the Differents?
In the two-phase, traditional dental implantation method, the process is carried out in 2 stages spread over a period of three to six months. First, the replacement of the implants takes place in the jaw bone and then the fabrication of the crowns for teeth. Where the artificial root and the abutment are divergent units. At the same time, the artificial root heals the bone. This conventional technology is used when the patient has no suitable bone available for implantation. This dental implantation method takes a prolonged time for healing which proves it is troublesome to the patients due to their functions and aesthetic reasons. It is important to mention that this type of implantation is only possible when the patient has the right amount and quality jaw bone.
One-phase dental implantation method, in other words, the immediate loading implants is the latest in dental implant technology. This specialized technique allows teeth replacement in a single day. The entire procedure from the extractions, implant placements, and fabrication of the crowns, bridge, or denture on top is all done in one stage within five working days.
Like each individual has a different need for teeth replacement, scanning and evaluation confirms the dental implant. In this case, the incorporation of the artificial root and the prosthetic abutment is done into a single unit. After the surgery, a temporary crown (or denture) is placed on the abutment compartment above the gums. The raising of flaps is not required in several cases while placing the immediate dental implant. The immediate dental implantation method takes less time for healing and allows for ideal soft tissue aesthetics with a high level of patient satisfaction.
So, when talking about dental implantation methods and compare two-phase implantation, the immediate loading implants method is more effective, with outstanding soft tissue reactions and marginal bone loss rate.
